Vietnam’s Shrimp Exports to EU Rise Sharply in Q1 2025

Positive Signals from a Diverse EU Market

The EU is a key market with wide-ranging consumer needs—from affordable everyday items to premium products. There’s growing demand for processed and ready-to-eat shrimp, with processed items now making up 42–45% of exports. Average export prices remained stable, signaling healthy demand.

  • Whiteleg shrimp remains dominant with US$87 million, accounting for 81% of total exports.

  • Black tiger shrimp and other shrimp products also posted solid gains, highlighting increased interest in high-value and specialty items.

Key Markets See Impressive Growth

Major EU countries recorded strong import growth:

  • Germany: US$28M (+38%)

  • Belgium: US$23M (+59%)

  • Netherlands: US$21M (+19%)

  • France: US$8M (+39%)

These countries not only import directly but also serve as distribution hubs for the broader EU market.

Upcoming Expo to Boost Momentum

The Seafood Expo Global 2025 (May 6–8, Barcelona) is a key opportunity for Vietnamese shrimp exporters to promote their brand, connect with buyers, and capture new orders for the upcoming peak season. Participation will also help businesses stay updated on consumer trends and technical standards.

Strategic Focus for Growth

To strengthen market share in the EU, Vietnamese companies are encouraged to:

  • Invest in processing and value-added production

  • Expand certified farming areas

  • Enhance digital marketing, brand presence, and direct EU partnerships
