Favorable water conditions have accelerated fish growth, improved harvest efficiency, and contributed to tighter supply-demand dynamics in the final months of the year.
At present, farm-gate prices for market-size pangasius range between VND 30,000 and 32,000 per kg, depending on size and quality—marking an increase of more than 10% compared to the same period last year. The price rally reflects robust export demand toward year-end, alongside improved production efficiency at farm level.
Industry sources estimate current profit margins at nearly VND 10,000 per kg, as stable pricing and faster growth cycles help reduce production costs. Flood and high-tide conditions are widely regarded as favorable for pangasius farming, enabling quicker biomass accumulation and generally lower disease incidence when ponds are properly managed.
Market participants also note that pangasius prices have strengthened steadily compared with the previous year, with an increase of around 10%, while breakeven levels are estimated at approximately VND 25,000 per kg. Current pricing therefore provides healthy margins across the supply chain heading into peak export season.
While floodwaters deliver nutrient-rich conditions that support rapid growth, they also require stricter biosecurity and infrastructure management to mitigate disease risks, particularly during seasonal temperature fluctuations common in the final quarter.
Overall, the pangasius sector is entering the year-end period on a positive trajectory, underpinned by rising prices, improved farm performance, and sustained export demand, reinforcing expectations for a strong finish to the year.
